If Israel had not beaten Syria’s air force in its day, as it did with Syria’s army – and the Egyptian, Jordanian, Iraqi and Saudi Arabian armies, too – today Israel would not exist. And without Israel, the whole region would be in the hands of unscrupulous tyrants and radical Islamist groups whose attention would be directly aimed against us. Israel has been instrumental as our parapet. Israel will be even more instrumental in an ever radicalized area.

Spanish conservatives are now in open warfare against each other as two opposing factions seek to gain control over the ideological future of the center-right Partido Popular, the main opposition party in Spain. The internal battle has been brewing for a number of years, but has become a very public affair ever since Mariano Rajoy, the party’s leader, lost the general election on March 9. Download PDF

The biggest favour the EU and NATO can do each other is to put their respective houses in order. An organization is only as strong as the collective strength and will of its members. It is impossible to have a strong NATO –or EU- when its member states are weak or have no resolve in tackling the problems. Download PDF

The existence of two conditions is imperative for the survival of any military alliance: its members must have the same perception of the threat, and they must share a common strategy for fighting it. The Atlantic Alliance is without a doubt the most successful in history. It does not however meet either of the two aforementioned conditions. The recent efforts to revitalize the Organization are clear. However, with the differences which continue to prevail and with the passage of time, its decline is becoming more and more evident. NATO approaches the Bucharest summit with a serious problem: Afghanistan. It is widely held that the troops deployed there by NATO are severely insufficient to face the growing threat posed by both the reestablished Taliban forces and the terrorists, which form a part of global jihad. Overall, however, Afghanistan is not the cause of the hardships facing the Atlantic Alliance today. Afghanistan, in reality, is only one of its many problems. It’s an additional symptom, but not the illness itself. Download PDF espDescargar PDF

Admiral Fallon resigned from his role as head of Central Command of the North American forces. In doing so, he has begun to right some wrongdoings. He has repeatedly and publicly distanced himself from the official actions of the U.S. Government which he serves. Download PDF espDescargar PDF

If there has been one thing well done regarding the management of the Kosovo crisis, it has been time management. The United States was not in a hurry; it clearly made its move; it reached its objective without too much resistance. Nevertheless, this does not hide the truly relevant fact that NATO’s member states have failed in Kosovo; the intervention has not reached its objectives and now it all comes down to withdrawal of the troops as soon as possible. According to the Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the world is ailing and the illness is called Israel. Yesterday he accused the Jewish State of being a «black and dirty microbe», one which, we can assume, he believes should be fought and eradicated. Download PDF espDescargar PDF

Spain’s place in the world at the beginning of the year 2008 could not be more pitiful, especially if we bear in mind the position it could have enjoyed had the policies laid down by the governments of José María Aznar been continued. Download PDF espDescargar PDF

Since it came to power, this Spanish government was dedicated to sow the seeds of anti-Americanism in Latin America. Its friends were Fidel Castro, Evo Morales and Hugo Chávez. Unfortunately, one must not place much trust in dictators, and anti-Americanism has turned into anti-Spanishness overnight. espDescargar PDF
